Butternut Squash
Butternut squash have a good market. They are also very good for you and your family to eat as they contain a lot of vitamins.
The grow well in areas with altitudes of 1700m above sea level and temperatures of 23- 29°C. They do not do well in cold areas.
If you would like to grow butternuts, ensure that your soil is well drained, such as sandy loams, and have a pH value of 6.0-6.5.
To find out the pH level of your soil or how acidic it is, you will need to do a soil test.
A soil test is important because it will tell you:
How healthy your soil is
Which fertilisers to add to make your soil better
Which crops will grow well in your soil.
Get your soil tested by Daktari Wa Udongo from CropNuts. Call them on +254 790 499190 or send an email to support@cropnuts.com. They will take samples of your soil from your farm to test and send you a report. A soil test will save you money and it will give you a bigger and better crop.
